The bookz

by - Sunday, January 24, 2016

This is why I never make yearly resolutions because they never seem to work (or maybe I don't always take them seriously enough), and rules and plans are meant to be broken. Well, at least in my life dictionary at the very least.

I've promised to myself I will start posting new posts once a week just to keep a good momentum of my writing as well as ensuring this place stays alive a little bit longer. But when inspirations don't come and many happenings fail to come my way, it's hard to.

Yes, I could just talk about my reading progress so far but even that has been a very slow and almost humiliating issue to talk about. Here are my reads at present, but mind you, I do tend to read more than one book at a time to follow my moods:

1) Queenie by Jacqueline Wilson
2) The Voices by F.R. Tallis
3) Forgive and Forget by Margaret Dickinson

Queenie, what can I say? First of all, don't judge this book by its sheer size because it is in fact a book that can guarantee you a very fast read. The fonts inside are big and there are really nice illustrations at the opening of each chapter. Like I've mentioned in my most recent videos, I have always loved Jacqueline Wilson books and they fill my childhood like no other books could (Other than Roald Dahl, J.K. Rowling and Enid Blyton, let's not forget them!) and my favourites until this day are Violet, The Illustrated Mum and The Girls out Late with other books in the series. I love her other books too but these are the ones I find myself reading over and over from time to time. I don't know whether it is just my growing age or some other factor, but lately I find her newer books including Queenie a little bit slow. Okay, not slow, but really slow. It simply takes ages before I find an exciting plot in the story or some other unexpected event that I look forward to. It's quite tedious because I really have to be patient until I'm done with the story. However, I did not find any problem at all with her other books like Jackie Daydream (I loooooove this book!) and Cookie, I quite enjoyed them very much. But I shall always look forward to her books in the future because in general, her books are still something I like to read and they do affect my reading and writing.

And what about The Voices by F.R. Tallis? Gosh, give me a minute to just laugh and grab some essence of life for a bit because I need them. This book, although I'm just about done reading it, is quite good. It has a fair sense of suspense and a little creepiness cramped up inside which makes my reading experience rather pleasant. But then, that's as far as it can go. I was looking forward for something scarier because hey, the book cover does seem to promise for something like it but I find the story rather dull and static. There were of course, some scary moments but then the story later unfolds itself to an even, slow and boring progress. I still won't read it at night though because I'm such a scaredy-cat who only reads books with happy endings in it. hehe Right, so far, I have not found any books that can equal to the Goosebumps series which are just AWESOME and SCARY. Since that is the case, I can't wait to start on one of the books by Stephen King that my sister bought and see whether it is scary enough for me.

I can't say much about Forgive and Forget as I'm only into just a few pages so I will keep my comments of the book to myself for the time being.

Other happenings this week would probably be that I have just started to enroll in a driving class a few days ago. It went a lot better than I though (or dreaded) that I can tell you which is such a HUGE relief for me and my dad (hi). I didn't hit the curbs this time and my driving seemed more controlled than before and I could bring the car to a perfect stop on a hill without rolling uncontrollably down the hill (and hit someone in the process -_-). That didn't happen of course, hitting someone I mean. hahaha *dying inside*

And that's just about it from me. I have to sleep early because my sleeping patterns have gone haywire since semester break started and I need my good quality sleep back. Until then, Assalamualaikun!
